As always, the guys from Pictures Music have an ear for a good thing. With the likes of Lapalux (about to release on Brainfeeder) and Koreless they have a knack for picking up fresh new producers and bringing them to people’s attention.

They seem to have unearthed another gem in the shape of Bobby Champs. The young producer makes straight up dance floor beats with tinges of acid and techno that gained early support from Jackmaster amongst others.

There is also a new EP on the way which is storming stuff. Check out the track “All Night” below and get a flavour of what’s to come.

From his brilliant early releases on Med School and Alphacut through to later work for Soul Jazz and then his recent brilliant “Real Talk” for Numbers, Randomer has consistently impressed with quality beats across a varied tempo range.

Hemlock are the latest label to welcome him on board and he delivers two of his strongest tracks to date. “Scruff Box” opens the release with lovely crunchy drums, a lovingly distorted bassline and vocal snippets while “Get Yourself Together” on the flip sprinkles classic tech step sounds and techniques across a driving techno backing.

Released on the 20th of February with limited test presses available now in the Hemlock Shop at Surus.

As far as albums that get played over and over and especially on Sundays, then the Cinematic Orchestra masterpiece “Ma Fleur” certainly falls into that category.

The collective that make up the orchestra first got together in 1999 and gained critical acclaim for their debut album “Motion”. Their ability to blend acoustic sounds with decks, samplers and live performance gained them fans from all ends of the musical spectrum.

In 2007 they released “Ma Fleur” where far more than before, the use of vocals took centre stage and took the whole sound to a new level. If there is an album that will help you unwind and clear the mind then this is it.

We first came across GoldFFinch when the Numbers crew out out the tune “Red Mask” late last year. We heard that they were about to ramp things up with more releases in 2012 and thanks to Saigon Recordings we can now enjoy their latest work.

“Funky Steppa” is driven by percussion, with sharp rim shots and claps being balanced by a tight vocal. “Groove Panda” has a tight drum roll to kick it along with some subtle repeating horn moves and again excellent percussion arrangement.

Released on the 13th of Feb.

As we reach the end of the month we though it’d be good to give you a wee rundown of our favourites from the past few weeks. In coming months we’ll also have charts from our favourite DJ’s, shops and clubs but for now it’s all about our choices.

It’s been such a stellar month for new vibes that there was no shortage of tracks to choose from. No fluff, just all beats. Some will be about to drop and some will have been out for a while. It’s quality all the way though!

Bonobo’s forthcoming remix album “Black Sands Remixed” is packed with goodies and this Lapalux rework makes the package a must have. Landing mid Feb through Ninja Tune.

New producer Sega Bodega really impressed with his Machinedrum & Rustie remixes and this new original has been tickling our tastebuds at The Labs. Watch out for this dude.

LuckyMe began their account for 2012 with a brilliant new EP from Machinedrum. The busiest man in electronic music delivered 5 tracks of house goodness for the imprint and you can read our review for more info. Check out my favourite from the pack below.

With 2011′s brilliant “Love Affair” album behind him, Phil Weeks has been busy working on the follow up, entitled “Raw Instrumental”.

Once again it’s Weeks’ with his beloved MPC cutting up samples on the fly and creating some truly wonderful house music. The album has a real live feel and at times feels like a bit of a jam in the best possible way.

Packed to the brim with subtle hooks and earworms amongst the tough beats and bass backings, it’s a brilliant piece of work. Check out the video for “Do That Dance” below.

His much lauded new album has been gathering rave reviews from industry insiders, his label Hotflush is going from strength to strength with a string of quality releases and his new EP “The Hope” is garnering airplay across an eclectic mix of radio stations.

It’s a good time to be Scuba. He’s come a long way from his early days going to jungle and house nights in London before moving his production sound towards the fledgling dubstep scene.

From there it has slowly developed towards house and techno with this new EP demonstrating a mature sound and highlighting his exceptional production skills.

It’s only January and this is already a candidate for one of the best tunes of 2012. Released on Feb 6th and available at Boomkat.

Edinburgh’s Profisee has a history of quality beats with the Scotland Yard Emcees, The Great Ezcape and guest vocal work for the likes of Neil Landstrumm and Hexstatic. He also delivered a brilliant EP in the shape of “Logan’s Run” for our Phuturelabs label.

2012 however is the year where he stands at the forefront and finally releases his debut solo album – “From All Angles”. A taster appeared at the end of last year in the shape of the Dam Mantle produced “Mind Over Matter”.

The next installment to appear is the Starkey produced “Hold Up”. Set for release on February 20th through Edinburgh label Abaga Records, the pack comes filled to the brim with remixes from local talent including Tactus and The Setup. The real gem however is the original and sees Prof’s brilliant vocal expertly placed inside Starkey’s dubstep tinged backing.

Profisee’s also been giving away some unreleased gems via his Soundcloud, the latest of which is the brilliant “Demons” from the unreleased “Scotland Yard LP”. Hop on over and scoop the rest up before they go.

I usually don’t hold much trust in music recommendation sites but one producer I discovered a few years ago thanks to Last.FM’s “you like this dude, you might like this dude” system was the brilliant William Baskinski.

A quick dive into his discography unveiled a collection of quality modern classical music, left of centre electronica and reel to reel tape loop weirdness.

While people usually wheel out his “Disintegration Loops” as a fine example of his work, “Variations : A Movement In Chrome Primitive” is more than worth your time.

Released in 2004, the two CDs contain some of the finest abstract electronica ever released and is perfect fodder for your Sunday ears. Here’s Part 4 and if this floats your boat, head over to Boomkat and pick up the whole album.

Japanese producer Makoto is a name known to most for his classy drum n bass work on LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking imprint but his long players have always included a variety of tempos and genres.

His latest outing comes courtesy of 7even Recordings and sees him deliver two slabs of house goodness with a tough backbone.

“What Do You Want” is up first and sees a catchy vocal hook sprinkled over a sea of warm sub bass and crisp snares. “Different Rhythm” on the flip is a brilliant wee amen driven stepper that keeps things simple but effective with it’s tough beats and bass combo.
