R&S was originally founded way back in 1984 and continues to this day to release exciting new electronica.

While their back catalogue is absolutely packed with anthems, Radio Scorpio invited label founder Renaat Vandepapeliere to put together a mix of his favourites from the label’s ’90s output.

There are so many quality mixes from back in the day doing the rounds. It clear that the latest burst in the internet with Soundcloud and Mixcloud is giving pople the ability to get mixes they had in the archives onto the net and ready for our listening pleasure.

This time we have one straight from the UK’s own DJ Don Greg Wilson. It’s a mix he recorded in 1982 as a best of for Piccadilly Radio in Manchester. Its all about the floor fillers from places like the Wigan Pier and has not only northern soul and funk but also some early hip hop vibes.

As you may know we were spinning tunes on Thursdays in our favourite bar The Ivy over the last year or so. Well after a little juggling we now have a new slot on the last Sunday of every month.

While we will still be keep the vibe smooth for all those recovering from the rigours of the weekend, we will also be providing some party vibes later in the evening for all those Sunday stalwarts who are preparing to hit the city clubs for one more weekend boogie.

For our first night on the 29th January we are delighted to be hosting the pre club party for a new night La Rocha which runs every Sunday in the amazing new Glasgow venue The Berkeley Suits. On the night they have Labs favourite Dam Mantle playing who we covered last year.

Another Friday, another classic mix is uncovered. Another Andy Weatherall extravaganza. There is some debate from people who claim to have this on tape that this is actually a studio mix to represent some of the sets he played at the time.

One thing there is no debate about is that this is sheer quality and has made many people very happy who used to listen to this every day. No track list but expect some house and even real, credible trance music.

It’s safe to say that Mary Anne Hobbs was a very busy lady on XFM over the holiday season. Not only did she play all the best tunes of the year, she also lined up some of the best mixes we heard in 2011. Hopefully you will have already checked out the Scuba mix from last week and lets just say this one might even surpass it.

Karenn is the combination of producers Blawan and Pariah from the R&S records stable. Both these guys are hot property right now in their own right and when they come together to produce as Karenn it’s always a bit special.

This time they take to the decks to seamlessly combine tribal beats, techno and house vibes into what can only be described as an epic set.

The duo’s first outing on their “Works The Long Nights” imprint has been flying off the shelves but you can still pick it up at Rubadub – fill your ears with one of the tracks below.

We just can’t get enough of Scuba or his Hotflush imprint at the moment. Starting 2012 off with a flyer in the shape of the Locked Groove EP, Scuba also recorded mix out for Mary Anne Hobbs amazing XFM show.

It offers a taster of some amazing new tracks due to drop in the coming months, including the new EP and album from Scuba himself.

It already looks like Hotflush will be at the top of the label tree yet again come the end of the year.

We have had a great response to our 2011 lists so far and as its coming up to Hogmanay (Scottish for New Year) we thought we would pick out some of our favourite mixes of the year to either get the party started or keep the party going.

There have been hundreds of quality mixes and live sets this year with the like of Fabric, FACT, XLR8R really upping the anti as well as the artists themselves putting things out there.

We have waxed lyrical about Scuba all year and we also love when he gets his SCB suit out for a bit of techno nonsense. Delighted we were, when he did a mix for XLR8R this year that contained many of his own productions

Paul Woolford had a massive resurgence in 2011. His productions were top class and he started to make a move towards a more eclectic DJing style covering not only techno and house but also some bass flavours. This epic mix from Berghain is vinyl only and is sure to make the party happen.

We had great fun listening to RinseFM this year and the Numbers show was always a highlight. Great banter and interesting guests. They managed to get Ben UFO, Floating Points, Jackmaster, Spencer, Joy Orbison, Pearson Sound and Bok Bok all in the studio at one time……what a show!

One of the best DJ’s we saw live this year was Levon Vincent. If you know his awesome productions then his DJ sets are just an extension of these. He did this to celebrate his Novel Sound label. Banging.

On one of his many visits to Glasgow, Andy Weatherall played Melting Pot to a packed crowed. Is was a blinder with a dark slow house and disco vibe. We just had to search out a similar and found one from Disco Deviant earlier this year. Brilliant!

Rounding this off we’ve got a rather tasty Essential Mix from Jamie XX. The man had a phenomenal year and proved himself as more than competent on the 1s and 2s.

Kicking off with an Orbital classic and moving through some amazing house, techno and other bass driven shenanigans, it’s a bit of a belter. Click for tracklist.
