Daft Punk – Da Funk
Back from holiday and was hitting some old Soma releases that brought me round to French housemeisters Daft Punk. “Da Funk” was the second of their two releases on the Glasgow label and the bands first major commercial success that had the major labels queing round the block.
After a review that called their guitar band project Darlin “a bunch of daft punks”, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo set off to start using synths and drum machines creating Daft Punk as we now know it. They not only drove the french house revolution of the late 90′s but produced two of the best electronic albums (Homework & Discovery) of all time.
The almost non-descript start to “Da Funk” lulls before the punk synth grabs you, just before the hats take over followed by the bass that activates the nodding muscles. Just like that the grooving is on!!!!
