    Gravious

Glasgow producer Gravious was responsible for a few amazing 12′s on Hotflush and it’s sublabel Scuba back in 2006/2007. With the exception of an EP on Highpoint Lowlife a year or so ago and the odd remix however, he’s been seemingly fairly quiet. So it was with obvious excitement that we greeted the news of a new EP, set for release at the end of January on Saigon.

With today’s electronic music scene at perhaps it’s most free for some time, with producers and DJs throwing genres and styles into the mix all over the shop without a care in the world, it seems the perfect time for the return of Gravious and new EP “Junction City” is very much a record that sits perfectly in 2011.

From the title track’s “boot you in the face” snare, slighty ravey stabs and uplifting pads to “Lodestone” with it’s plinky plonky earworm of a synth line and melancholy atmospherics before finishing off with the beats and bleeps of “Lunar Module”, this is a brilliant EP that will hopefully lead the way for more fresh material from the producer.

Have a listen to my personal favourite “Lodestone” below and head over to Gravious’s Soundcloud to check the other tracks.
