    KiloWatts

The internet is brilliant. I mean REALLY brilliant. In the last few days i’ve done all my christmas shopping, discovered a site that has online playable ZX Spectrum games from my childhood and a whole load of weird & wonderful music…..and all from the comfort of my freezing cold house.

Whilst on my internet travels I came across a musician by the name of Kilowatts aka Jamie Watts. Born in Texas, but now living in Philadelphia in the US of A, he’s been writing & producing music since the early 1990′s.
Back then he was using DOS based trackers like “Multitracker” to create & shape his sounds- time tho has moved on and with it the software. These days he uses Cubase and the ever reliable Ableton, however the attention to detail is still there (and is evident when you hear his music!).

    KiloWatts- Six Silicates

The tracks that caught my attention featured on an EP entitled “Six Silicates” which was released earlier this year. It’s now available for free MP3 download here (though if you’d like to donate some money you’ll receive some super high quality flac versions from KiloWatts as a thank you for supporting him!).

I’ve had this on the Ipod a lot the last few days and it’s suited the wintery weather we’ve been having perfectly- glacial sounding minimal glitchy/ electronica/ IDM- brilliant stuff!

I could have easily just put the whole EP up here- but i’ve managed to narrow it down to these two tracks for your listening pleasure.

I wanted to find out some more information about KiloWatts and check out his other releases- so I emailed him directly on the off chance he might point me in the right direction.

He did much better than that, in the form of a wee early Christmas present to one & all……a Phuturelabs exclusive track entitled “Squeaky Cat”.
