Lil’ Louis – French Kiss

As with last week its time to crack open the nostalgia bottle and pour a glass of some classic house music. Lil’ Louis “French Kiss” really defined an era and brought house music to many in the UK at the end of the 80′s. Officially released in 1989 it had been getting played by DJ’s for some time before this. Born in Chicago, Louis was the son of guitarist Bobby Sims, who recorded for Chess and appeared with the psychedelic-soul unit Rotary Connection. He grew up with nine siblings and played both drums and bass as a child, then began DJing in the 70′s.
I first came across this tune on a mix tape I was given by a friends big brother and was blown away by it. It did not have its full impact however until I heard it in a club in Glasgow a few weeks later. Amazing! Lil’ Louis can still be found DJing all over the world but alas has not managed to release any new productions in the last few years. Turn this right up and if you happen to have a smoke machine get it on!
