The Source feat Candi Staton – You Got The Love

Ok so it’s a bit of an obvious choice for Classics Friday but screw it – it’s an absolutely amazing tune and any excuse to give it a listen is a good one.

Purists will of course tell you that the original 1985 version of the track (audio below also) by Jamie Principle is the one you should be listening to, but I say ignore them and give the Candi Staton version another spin. While the original is indeed a classic, it’s Staton’s amazing vocal that takes the track to the next level.

If this doesn’t give you a lump in your throat, you’re possibly dead on the inside. I’ve seen Candi Staton perform this live a few times over the years and each and everytime I’ve seen grown men reduced to tears (myself included).
