To get hyped for another first class weekend of music we have mixes from two of the most exciting artists to break through this year. If that wasn’t enough, they are coming to Glasgow. Actress is still riding high on the back of his first album release “Splazsh” while Redinho‘s live sets have been causing serious shape pulling all over the UK. Back to the dawn of house for this weeks classic as we let Mr Fingers (aka Larry Heard) do the talking. “Can you feel it” is one of several seminal Chicago house tunes released by Larry his friends and their many fingers guises. For me this is the most notable with the Jackson 5 sample near the beginning and the amazing Robert Owens vocal.

I’ve got to admit it’s been a wee while since I last heard a debut release as good as this one.

Luke Abbott’s “Holkham Drones” is a sublime listening experience. From the opening track “2nd 5th Heavy” to closing number “Dumb” it combines ambient with droney IDM, soundtrack with techno beats. Released last week on the Border Community label (which also counts Ricardo Tobar & Nathan Fake among its fold) it’s a brilliant debut release. If you’re liking the sounds you can pick it up here.

We’re certainly partial to a Breakage remix here at the Labs with his previous reworks of Plan B and Florence and The Machine proving popular here. Next to step into his sights are Underworld. While I’ve always been a bit of a fan, recent work hasn’t exactly inspired me hugely so it’s up to Breakage to up their game a little and he’s done a brilliant job. The original’s a bit of a trancey number and he’s retained these elements while sprinkling on some dubstep magic of his own.

New Zealand based dubstep trio Truth have made a name for themselves with top quality 12s on Mala’s Deep Medi Musik and Skream’s Disfigured Dubz and now it’s time for them to take things up a notch with “Puppets” – their full length debut album for Australia’s Aquatic Lab Records. Packed to the brim with wall to wall sub bass, the album’s 15 tracks showcase the trio’s talent for creating eerie soundscapes and cramming them with enough dancefloor savvy to keep the listener’s interest at home and on the floor.

Two top quality Glasgow bands go head to head on this one. Errors take the growly goodness of The Twilight Sad’s epic opening track from last album “Forget The Night Ahead” and turn it into this nice, chilled electronica number. Despite the complete change of style – the brilliant vocals surprisingly work equally as well, quality stuff!

Aeroplane came crashing onto the scene with some phenomenal remixes of the likes of Grace Jones and Sebastien Tellier and their eagerly awaited debut album finally lands on September 6th in the shape of “We Can’t Fly”. The lead single of the same name set the bar high with it’s barrel loads of funk and the album won’t disappoint anyone expecting more of the same. Huge chunks of nu-disco goodness prevail throughout and some Brian May-esque guitar licks up the surrealness factor.

Taking influences from the likes of Giorgio Moroder and The Human League, it sounds like the soundtrack to the best 80′s movie that was never was. In a world full of musicians taking themselves too seriously, this album is simply a joy to listen to from start to finish – never afraid to plunge headfirst into synth operatics and wear it’s heart on it’s fairly psychedelic sleeve.

Various vocalists drop in to lend their own touch, most notable being Jonathan Jeremiah amazing vocal on “Good Riddance” but I personally prefer the instrumental outings, I’ve picked a couple of my favourites below but I highly recommend you pop along to your retailer of choice on the 6th of September and grab this chunk of musical gold.

One of the UK’s finest hip hop exports, the Foreign Beggars recently let out a selection of tracks from their “United Colours of Beggattron” album for remix and while Vol 1 was packed with more dancefloor edged reworks, Vol 2 takes a slightly more laid back approach with some top quality house/garage and downtempo remixes. Behind the controls on this package are Dj Troubl, Dabyre, Blue Daisy and more – but it’s the brilliant Diverse Concepts remix that stands out above the rest for me. It’s spacey dubstep goodness at it’s best.

Cosmin TRG are back on Hemlock with this double a side banger. Funky shuffling undertones are evident, however far more techno leanings are bringing the heat on both tracks but for us “Breton Brut” is the one to make the dance floor shake.
