    Green Velvet

We continue our preview for this year’s Electric Frog and the next artist in the spotlight is Green Velvet.

Leaving behind a budding career in engineering, Curtis Alan Jones left university and returned to his home town of Chicago and turned his hobby for making beats into a living that would propel him to become one the the best known producers and DJ’s in electronic music.

He first made his mark with his house moniker Cajmere, releasing classics such as “Let Me Be” and “Perculator”. We though it would be rude not to let you get your ears round these tracks again as they really are special, “Perculator” appears in it’s updated 2010 form.

Jones then decided that he wanted to take his music in another direction, and what better way to compliment his harder beats than to create a punk style alter ego, Green Velvet. Spiked green hair and tunes with real attitude and swagger make him the all round package. His now famous monologues at the beginning and throughout his tunes also put him in a unique position of communicating with his crowd where other DJ’s can’t or won’t.

What can we expect from his at the Electric Frog then? Well one thing we are really looking forward to is seeing the man himself up close and personal. Although he has visited these shores many times before, the majority of his gigs will have been at festivals in giant tents or venues that hold 2000 plus. Seeing him in more intimate surrounding will be a real treat. What you can also expect is a real performance sprinkled with his now famous classics and well as some sneaky reworks he normally loads the bag with. We have given his two big tunes an airing below as well as a fresh mix from the last few months.

There is also a little promo video to push the anticipation to almost unbearable levels. See you up the front. Cameras ready, prepare to flash!
