    Richie-Hawtin-Plastikman

A lot of people seemed to enjoy the last Richie Hawtin mix from the late 80s. With the likes of Souncloud and Mixcloud playing such a big part in the electronic music scene there always seems to be a person who uploads an old CD or recorded radio mix.

Well this time its from the DJ himself as he uploaded this old Mixmag CD from 1995. Tracklisting over at Discogs.

    Matrix

Undoubtedly one of the finest producers to ever grace electronic music, Matrix has gone rather quiet in the past few years.

His work in the 90s easily ranks amongst the best drum n bass and house to ever grace vinyl and this track in particular stands out. Released on Grooverider’s Prototype imprint, “Mute 98″ saw the producer in a chilled mood and never fails to give me that chill.

The bassline is fiendishly simple but ridiculously catchy and seems to float over a perfectly EQd 2 step break and those floaty pads that seem to worm their way into your memory.

    Absolutely amazing stuff.

    Sigha

Don’t be fooled by the ambient start to this EP. It’s just a gentle way of getting you ready for the build up through the gears. Proceedings start off light and dreamy for “Something In Between Us” before moving into stripped back glitch on “Where I Come To Forget”. We then get the 4/4 pace going with the hypnotic “How To Disappear” before a final comedown with “Drown”.

Its another impressive package from both Sigha and Hotflush who continue to lead the way in underground electronic music.

You can grab this now at Boomkat.

    Benjamin Fehr

Benjamin Fehr has been peddling his unique brand of dark house and techno since 1993 and came up with the title “groove noir” in the early 2000s to sum up the sound.

The past few years have seen him release on labels such as Nervmusic and Tic Tac Toe and his latest outing sees him team up with Mean Records for the “If You Had Lips EP”.

Opening track “My Lover” combines eerie atmospherics with melancholy minor key bass notes to deliver a chunky slab of doomy house goodness.

The EP’s title track takes an even darker approach and sprinkles horror movie style piano notes over proceedings while the beats and bass drive along beneath.

The digital release adds two tracks and this release deserves your attention if you have a taste for the darker side of electronica.

This lands on the 29th of February and you’ll be able to pick this up at Beatport.

    trikk

We look at a new producer for us in the shape of Trikk. The young Portugese native has been making moves on the Terrain Ahead label at home with his take on the mutant house sounds made popular in the 90s by the likes of Colin Dale.

He now hits the UK shores with a release on Man Make Music. Soulful and engaging with a dark edge, this is good house music worth your attention.

If that wasn’t enough, there is also a free download of the track “Envisages” thanks to XLR8R.

    Kindness

With an obvious love for quality funk and soul, Adam Bainbridge AKA Kindness first popped up with a brilliant cover of The Replacements’ “Swinging Party” back in 2009 on Moshi Moshi.

After the initial excitement, he kept everyone waiting until 2011 when the hugely infectious “Cyan” appeared.

Album release details followed shortly after to whet everyone’s appetite and the phenomenal “SEOD” appeared in January as a cheeky white label. It’s this track that opens the album and it sets the tone perfectly with it’s warn synth and sub combo wandering over the 80s style pads and spacey vocal sprinklings.

For the next forty minutes or so, the listener is welcomed into a world where classic New York disco leanings meet nods to modern r&b and everything has a hefty dollop of funk to help it along. The Eastenders theme gets a cover but in the world of Kindness, nothing really surprises.

Standout track “House” is an amazing piece of work that takes in an anthemic diva vocal alongside a classic Prince style funk backing and in an ideal world, would be number one in the pop charts forever. Watch out for it making an appearance as a single later in the year.

Next single “Gee Up” was originally the flip to the Moshi Moshi released in 2009 and received a Philippe Zdar spit and polish for the album. Press play below and prepare for two of the funkiest minutes of your entire life.

SBTRKT has been playing this tidy “Hold On” remix in his sets for the past couple of months and rumours have been floating around as to the identity of Sisi BakBak.

The good money is on the alias being a new moniker for Mr Thom Yorke. Regardless it’s a lovely slab of moody electronica that strips the originals vocals back and liberally sprinkles them around its 808 hits and crunchy synth work.

    Available now at Boomkat.
