    Spam Chop

Wigflex label head Spam Chop has teamed up with record label and clothing store Mimm on the Cuckup EP.

Out now, the 3 tracker is firmly aimed at the dancefloor with full on techno flavours throughout. For me the two strongest tracks are “Blergzz” and “Frames”, both on point with the rhythm lead techno making a big comaback at the moment.

Get on this now at Boomkat and also check out the mix and interview loaded up by The Quietus.

While we try to take a neutral position when it comes to the commercialisation of the 14th of February, it’s fair to say that the card makers, flower growers and restaurants may well be glad of the income.

What we do get at this time of year is the music business and more specifically the underground getting busy producing mix tapes, remixes and other delights for the lovers day.

Famously, Glasgow son Hudson Mohawke has produced a “Slow Jams” tape for the last few years and this year is no different.

The rest of the LuckyMe stable have also been busy as Ango has this tasty Sade cover which you can stream below and download here.

Last and by no means least comes Deadboy with this sweet selection for Wifey. Stream below or download here.

Hot City x LOL Boys - LOL City - artwork

We’re partial to a bit of Hot City goodness here at the Labs and chucking the LOL Boys into the mix guarantees our interest has been piqued. Together they are affectionately known as “LOL City” and this two tracker on Unknown To The Unknown is a bit of a monster.

Lead track “Hot Boys” is the one for us. Sparkly 303 noodlings take a saunter over a punchy percussive backing, best experienced whilst under the influence of extreme strobeage.

    Available now at Boomkat.

Redshape – Throw In Dirt / The Land

    redshape

Over the last few years we’ve seen a resurgence of the underground electronic music scene, new genres such as UK funky and dubstep have risen and now spiral towards a more commercial future. At the beginning artists like Martyn were laying down mixes that crossed genre borders of these new scenes while still keep home base firmly weighted towards a techno and house vibe.

From such beginnings labels were started such as 3024 and Numbers that aimed to cater for those who like music from many different sources and styles. So after their last outing with Mosca, 3024 now play an ace card with the return of Redshape.

The Berlin based, red masked producer creates modern techno weapons with full on Detroit energy running through the grooves. Throbbing vintage beats that create a sound stripped back enough to keep it simple yet complex enough to make it interesting.

Preview the release below and get your buy finger ready for the release on February 20th

Burial - Kindred EP - vinyl label

New Burial material is always greeted by waves of blind enthusiasm from anyone with ears and this EP will do nothing to change that. The three tracks contained within are all classic examples of the producer’s style and hopefully hint at a new album in the offing.

Click play below to preview the title track and head on over to the Hyperdub store to check out the other tracks and pick up this brilliant EP.

    C.R.S.T

Valve Recordings have a long history in the drum n bass world and now it seems it’s time for them to spread their wings a little and explore other tempos. While label boss Dillinja is keeping the old fans happy with his trademark sound, new signings C.R.S.T are set to deliver some house and garage flavours for the imprint.

The welsh four-piece already have releases for Ten Thousand Yen, Well Rounded and No Hats No Hoods amongst others under their belts and this release further marks them out as a name to watch in 2012.

As well as two original tracks, the package also contains this quality remix from old skool garage don Zed Bias to finish things off nicely.

Released on the 12th of March on limited coloured vinyl and digital download.

    La Funk Mob

Hubert Blanc Francard and Philippe Zdar achieved huge commercial success with Cassius but it was their La Funk Mob project in the early ’90s that really floated the Phuturelabs boat. In particular the brilliant “Tribulations Extra Sensorielles” on Mo’ Wax in 1994.

The six tracker gathers up material from their Mo’ Wax and Lovesupreme 12″s into one handy place and captures the mid to early 90s trip hop era perfectly.

Packed to the brim with crisp beats, earworm basslines a-plenty and hooks galore, this is perfect Sunday fare.
