    Skream in 2006

Last Christmas, instead of giving you his heart, Skream delivered the goody bag that was “The Freeizm Album” (you can also still grab Vol 1 and Vols 2 & 3). This year he donned his Santa hat again to offer up a lesson in the history of dubstep.

Digging into his hard drive he’s zipped up 11 unreleased tracks from between 2004 and 2006 that offer an insight into the origins of the genre and include some of his finest moments.

    JD Twitch

Well, it’s time to get truly festive and who better to get us in a slightly left of centre Christmas mood than JD Twitch. The Glasgow producer and DJ gets his jingle bells on the go and chucks in a nice wee droney pad for good measure on this rework of the carol.

Available on a ltd edition clear 7″ over at Juno, free with any order.

    Soft House Company

Its a 1990 piano driven monster that sounds like it been taken out of a New York house party. While it may have been played in such surroundings, “What You Need” by Soft House Company actually came from Italy.

Still making many DJ sets to this day, we thank Bicep for the hosting. If you pop over there, you might even be able to grab this.

    Gerd

As the Xmas express continues unabated, the free tunes just keep coming and coming. This time I’m going for a nice slice of deep house from Gerd.

The Clone and Royal Oak stalwart gets busy on the 1992 David Anthony track “Free Your Mind”. It’s been beefed up on the beats and ready for the turntables.

While you are at it, check out this tasty house mix tat GERD laid out in Leeds last month.

    Imaginary Friend – Dark Matter

    Imaginary Friend

Greek producer Imaginary Friend is a new name on me, his debut album “Dark Matter” however has swiftly placed him into the list of “ones to watch for 2012″.

Over the 11 tracks contained within, the producer showcases his talent to take in elements of house, techno, dubstep and dark electronica and spin them into his unique output.

From the downtempo dub flavours of “No Need To Change” to the spacey chopped beats of “Exploration of Science”, it’s a cracking piece of work and works well as a long-player that deserves your attention from start to finish.

    Out now on Dubporn Records.

Paul White - We Three Kings

This time of year often sees many labels and artists getting all festive and giving away some quality beats for free. While we’ve been lapping up the freebies we’ve resisted the Christmas tunes so far.

Things changed however when Paul White dropped the tune “We Three Kings” into our inbox.

Its a Christmas title with White’s usual blend of hip hop beats and samples with just a tip of the hat to the original.

    PNAU

It’s been a fair few years since influential UK garage producer Wookie released anything new so this remix is a nice wee surprise. Fingers crossed it leads to some new material from the man however as this remix of Aussie act PNAU is a bit of a belter.

For the price of a click you get this chunky slab of house goodness with shuffly garage hi-hats, an earworm of a synth hook and a tonne weight of sub bass.

The full single package also comes with a tasty remix courtesy of Raffertie so keep an eye out for its releases on the 5th of February 2012.
