Instra:mental and Trevino share the honours on 3024′s fifteenth release

    3024: 15 - Instra:mental & Trevino - artwork

Martyn’s 3024 imprint has been responsible for some of the finest electronica 12s of recent years and the label is set to mark it’s 15th release with this quality double a-side from Instra:mental and Trevino.

With so much solo work coming from the studios of Boddika and Jon Convex, it’s possible that the duo’s collaborative Instra:mental project could suffer. This hasn’t proved to be the case however and this latest outing is one of their best to date.

“Pyramid” is a lovely chunk of old skool tinged electro packed with squelchy synth work, crunchy snares and unnerving atmospherics.

Trevino is a new name on us although there have been hints that it may be a current 3024 artist utilising a new golf themed alias. Answers on a postcard. The track in question is a bit of a belter.

Again on an old skool electro tip but taking a slightly lighter lean than the flipside, it’s a lovely spacey affair with an infectious call and response hook.

Released on the 29th of August.

Flying Lotus - Lovers Melt II

Flying Lotus is back with another mix of tunes for the summer. When asked about it, the Brainfeeder artist said “Lovers Melt II will hopefully be part of your summer sound. Some of my favorite songs ever.. Some you know, some you might not..”.

No track list on this one but if you feel the need check here to see what folks have been saying.

    Tim Tams - Oz Trip

You may not know this but one half of the Labs collective is currently in Oz for a long holiday. That has not stopped Cliff from posting tunes and also gathering some tasty beats from down under that we will hear more of in the coming weeks. To mark this journey we have an Ozzy classic in the Tim Tam as today’s snack of choice.

First up we have Damu who has just released his first ever EP “Mermaid” on Labs favourite Local Action. You can check a track from the EP below and listen to clips of the rest on Soundcloud and also grab the freebie “She’s Liquid” as well. Grab the 12″ at Phonica.

Next we have Darling Farah who recently released the EP “EXXY” to critical acclaim. Its a smooth blend of future house and techno. Big things are expected from this newcomer and we have a free track for you to wrap your ears around. Also keep a look out for a remix he did for Starkey as well as a re-edit of James Blake.

Darling Farah – Picture by Melissa

Breton have a new remix EP due to drop on Hemlock and have fired out a taster in the form of a remix of the tune “RDI” by Girl Unit. Its all about the bass which we love.

To finish off today’s snackage we’ve got a tasty wee re-edit of the Crystal Waters‘ classic “Gypsy Woman” courtesy of Vitamins resident Shaun Fae Solar. Grab it for free below and get yo slow jam shuffle on.

    Nomad - Devotion

This tune was a massive club hit on both side of the Atlantic in 1991 for production team Nomad. Produced by Damon Rochefort and feature MC Mikee Freedom it was actually the first tune that band member Steve McCutcheon ever wrote. Vocals were supplied by Sharon D. Clarke who also sang on FPI Project’s classic “Back To My Roots”.

Rocherfort went on to produce for the like of Kim Wilde and Michelle Gayle, while McCutcheon has a list of credits as long as your arm with the likes of Westlife (I’ll stop here shall I!). This must have been the pinnacle of his career though!

    Miguel Migs feat. Evelyn

US producer Miguel Migs‘ new album “Outside The Skyline” is set for release later this year on Om Records and the first taster has arrived in the shape of “Everybody” featuring the vocals of disco legend Evelyn “Champagne” King.

The original is a lovely slab of summery house goodness and the remix pack features some rather tasty reworks courtesy of Soul Clap, Nav Izadi and more. Om have kindly offered up Ivadi’s remix for free below and it’s a top quality rework that takes the spirit of the original and dips it in some lovely moody house shenanigans.

Download the remix for free below and head on over to Beatport to check out the original and other remixes.

    Hissy Fit

Since his Crosstrainers EP release on our label last year, Hissy Fit has continued to steadily build himself a reputation as a quality purveyor of electronic beats.

With releases on Swing And Skip in recent months, as well as live and DJ slots at various nights in Canada it’s been a busy time. His new track “Sunshine” shows how diverse his production style has become with a more house related vibe. There is a lovely acid line throughout the track and a sweet soulful vocal. No release details on this yet but it surely can’t be long till this is picked up.

Our friends at XLR8R also think highly of the Canadian producer as they have recently tipped him for greater things earlier this month.

Translation make a return to vinyl with Seba and Survival in tow

    Translation 7 - vinyl - artwork

Washington’s Translation Recordings made their debut with a jaw-droppingly good 12″ from Resound in 2005 and over the past 6 years, have dipped in and out of the vinyl market while keeping digital releases frequent.

Their first venture into vinyl for 2011 is set to arrive on the 25th of July and sees two of the finest exponents of quality deep drum n bass join up for remix duties. Both producers bring their a-game and deliver two chunks of dancefloor friendly bass driven goods with a sprinkling of dark atmospherics that hint at early 90′s atmospheric dnb.

Seba’s rework captures the essence of early Metalheadz with classic breaks a-plenty, grungey synth work and a tonne weight of sub bass. Survival takes charge on the flip and turns in a chunky head nodder packed with techy bass noises and rounds the package off perfectly.

N-Type presents Wheel & Deal Dubstep Vol 1 - artwork

Since it’s inception in 2009, Wheel & Deal has built a reputation for quality dubstep beats covering the entire gamut of subgenres contained within the style. With a back catalogue of deeper bits alongside some more straight up dancefloor numbers, the label has consistently kept its head and shoulders above the rest. The 8th of August sees the release of the imprint’s first compilation – “Wheel & Deal Dubstep Vol 1″.

Spread over two CDs, the album showcases the past present and future of the label by packing the first disc with new beats and unreleased gems (DJ Madd’s “Swinger” below is a personal favourite) before label boss N-Type steps up on the second to deliver a flawless mix of favourites from Wheel & Deal’s history.

The Black Dog – Liber Kult

The Black Dog - Liber Kult - artwork

While The Black Dog’s recent Music For Real Airports album was enjoyed by all here at the Labs, we couldn’t help but crave some new techno goodness from the Dog. It seems we weren’t alone and this year will see three stripped back techno 12s from the trio ahead of their new album for Soma in October.

The first of the three has arrived in the shape of “Liber Kult” and comes loaded with two slices of bass driven beauty. First track “Black Chamber Order” is a chunky driving techno number that leans itself to dark rooms, late nights/early mornings and maybe a little too much strobe. On the flip “Bass Mantra” takes the foot off the gas a little and sprinkles some acid over proceedings.

Unfortunately the vinyl is sold out but you can head on to the Dust Science Store and pre-order the digital version now ahead of it’s release on the 1st of August.
