    Burrito

I do love a burrito, in fact all Mexican food. All the food groups (and chilli sauce) is one easily handled package is a sure fire winner every time. For those local to Glasgow you must check out Taco Mazama, you won’t regret it. Anyway, enough of the snacks, more of the tunes.

Zomby signed to 4AD recently and many (including myself) were a bit unsure of what the partnership would bring. The first new material has appeared and it’s a nice spooky slice of dark dubstep tinged electronica that puts our worries to rest and warms things up nicely for the full album’s release in July.

Zomby – Things Fall Apart (feat. Panda Bear)

Our man SBTRKT is back after a tour and some more time in the studio. Currently the darling of Radio 1 he can still bring the heat, with his new tune “Wildfire” being no exception. Its dirty funk with his now customary vocal from Little Dragon front woman Yukimi Nagano. If that’s not enough, he has a new album on Young Turks on the way. Sweet!

Just when you thought you’d managed to acquire all the remixes of Jamie Woon’s brilliant “Night Air”, along comes Solomun with this tasty house rework – download below.

With the debut Com Truise “Galactic Melt” not to far away we have lined up this freebie thanks to XLR8R. Its all sharp, warped synth with heaps of atmosphere. Looks like label Ghostly have another monster on their hands.

A Tribe Called Quest - Bonita Applebum - artwork

Been a while since we had any hip hop on Classics Fridays and with the summer weather kicking in, it felt right for today’s choice to be a track from A Tribe Called Quest.

While there’s many a gem in their back catalogue, today we recommend you turn up the speakers, kick back and enjoy the brilliance of “Bonita Applebum”, the first single from their debut album “People’s Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm”.

    True Dub EP - artwork

Glasgow’s Morphy is one of our favourite producers here at the Labs, his unique brand of dubby beats constantly finding a place in our playlists. His latest outing “Backpack” is available now on Loxy’s CX Digital with the promise of a ltd edition 7″ release to follow.

The track takes influences from classic dub and ambient electronica and throws them into the mixing pot alongside half time drum n bass. The result is a wonderful piece of music that dodges genre classification and demands a space in your collection.

    Available now at junodownload.

    Photek

The return of Photek was welcomed with open arms here at the Labs and the material since his reappearance has been nothing but top quality (don’t miss the brilliant free download “Slow Burn”).

While we await more new material, he’s been kind enough to offer up some of his classics for remix and the latest of which is this rather tasty remix of the legendary “Ni Ten Ichi Ryu” by Buraka Som Sistema. Tis a beauty and is available to download for free below courtesy of the fine folks over at Fact Mag.

Brawther - Do It Yourself EP - artwork

As secretsundaze enter their tenth year of quality events, they’ve lined up some special events to celebrate alongside the launch of a label bearing the event’s name. French producer Brawther has been tasked with providing the first release and the tracks contained within the “Do It Yourself EP” are packed to the brim with quality house vibes.

Both original tracks have a lovely summery daytime feel and should make their way onto many a soundsystem over the next few months. For us though it’s all about the George FitzGerald remix, taking the housey goodness of the original and dripping it in a little bit of that syncopated vibe he does so well. Altogether it’s a quality package you should be snagging upon it’s release on the 16th of May.

Distal - Android Tourism - Fortified Audio

Its been a long time coming, but the next EP from the every brilliant Fortified Audio is due to hit the shops soon. Fortified have a knack of spotting talent at an early stage and have been bringing them to play to their Glasgow night (also named Fortified) for some time. This time round they lean on the skills upcoming artist Distal, to deliver the goods.

The “Android Tourism” EP is a four track adventure into spaced out detroit funk and techno with knods to funky and garage. The whole thing is high quality from start to finish with no filler and gives us the feeling at the Labs that Distal needs to be watched and listened to closely in the coming year.

Hector Ruiez's Techno Dad mix - cover

Let’s face it, we’re all getting on a bit and as we all join the dad club, it’s nice to know that folks like Techno Dads are out there to help us make the transition from dancefloor madness to pipe and slippers mode.

The Dad Casts podcast series features a selection of Djs from the dad club playing all manner of genres (Vol 3 is a fave of mine – nice dark old skool breakbeat) and the latest is courtesy of Hector Ruiez – one half of Glasgow electronica production team Stick 430.

The duo have just released the “Ravemore EP” through Glasgow’s Pest Control and Ruiez has thrown some tracks from the EP into the mix alongside some old skool and beats from Ramadanman, Marcus Rafferty and more.

    Roska

Hotflush have been on fire lately with releases from Joy Orbison, Sepalcure and more complimenting their recent “Back and 4th” compilation, highlighting the labels past, present and future.

Roska recently popped up on that comp and is now set to make his full debut for the label with two tracks in the shape of “Error Code” and “Abrupt”. The former is a lovely piece of tribal tinged housey goodness with spaced out synth work while the latter sees a catchy vocal snippet thrown into the mix alongside 808 hits and doomy pads.

Check out the preview below and pick this up from the 30th of May.
