    Profisee

It’s been a while since the last Phuturelabs label release but we’ve been far from lazy. We’ve been busy sorting out future releases and we’re proud to say the first release of 2011 from the label will be Profisee’s “Logan’s Run EP”.

The Edinburgh MC is one of the finest in the country and from his work on One Little Indian with the Yard Emcees in 2003 through to tracks with likes of Hexstatic and Neil Landstrumm right through to the material he’s currently working on with the likes of Starkey, his consistently flawless delivery backed with intelligent lyrics has brought him the respect of anyone lucky enough to have crossed his path.

To give you a bit of background history on the man himself, Dj Fly T from Capitol 1212 has put this rather fine mix together, delving into Profisee’s past and offering a glimpse into his future.

    Capitol 1212 Presents – 5 by Profisee

The “Logan’s Run EP” features production from our own S-Type, Ninja Tune’s Poirier, Process Rebel from Amsterdam and the mysterious Glasgow producer Scharkz. Have a listen below and get your itchy download fingers ready for the EPs release on March 28th.

If you head on over to Profisee’s Soundcloud you’ll also find a whole host of goodies for download and streaming – including this huge tune with Akira Kiteshi and co.

Lazy Sunday: Moritz von Oswald Trio – Horizontal Structures

With the ripples of their last EP “Vertical Ascent” still moving boldly through the electronica and techno scenes, the Moritz Von Oswald Trio (consisting of Moritz Von Oswald, Vladislav Delay and Max Loderbauer) bring something new on an altogether flatter plain. “Horizontal Structures” is another journey into the minds, equipment and musical influences of the three producers.

To be honest we could write all day about what’s on offer here but the best way to soak up these exceptional beats is to listen. With the shortest track coming in at just over eight minutes and the longest over twenty there is plenty to get into with jazz, techno, ambient and various other bits all poured into the pot.

We only have short clips available to wet the whistle so just go out and buy this. Released through the ever eclectic and wonderful Honest Jons.

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs – How Far (The 2 Bears rmx) – free download

    The 2 Bears

The 2 Bears (Raf Rundell and Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard) recently turned The View’s “Friend” into an uplifting slice of house, no small task given the original. This wonderful feat of remixing further carved the bears into our psyche following their fantastic “Curious Nature EP” so we were delighted to hear they’d be taking on “How Far”, the standout track from the recent EP from the Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.

Once again they’ve come up trumps and turned in a brilliant rework with nods to garage, house and a quality old skool break that never gets tired. Download courtesy of XLR8R.

    Actress - Gershwin/Harrier ATK - Nonplus - artwork

Nonplus continues its ascendance and further cements it’s place at the top of the pile for electronic music in 2011 with this, the label’s 10th release and second outing from Actress.

Following on from his previous release for the label, the London based producer showcases two completely different sides to his production skills. “Gershwin” opens the release and we’re in spacey dubstep-esque territory here, with a chunky drum pattern providing stability to a wonderfully eerie synth line that floats over proceedings amongst a cloudy soundscape with sprinklings of well rounded distortion. By complete contrast, “Harrier ATK” on the flip is a smoky slice of laid back electronica and provides the perfect calm to follow the storm.

Available from 7th March at Boomkat.

Age Of Love – Age Of Love

Back in the days when the words trance and decent tunes could be used in the same sentence, today’s classic appeared in just about every mix that was worth its salt. “Age Of Love” by Age Of Love was originally released in 1990 by Bruno Sanchioni and Giuseppe Cherchia but it wasn’t until Jam and Spoon‘s “Watch Out For Stella” remix that the tune became massive.

This tune virtually kicked off a whole scene which spawned acts such as BBE, of which Giuseppe Cherchia was a member. Many an amazing night was spent dancing to this tune and if you choose to do so, just go easy on the dayglo gear.

We have full samples of both tunes below with Dan Snaith, working under the new moniker of Daphni, bringing a more techno vibe to his tune. Hebden on the other hand stick to what he knows best, brilliant arrangements and wonderful production.

Breakage – Fighting Fire feat. Jess Mills

Breakage - Fighting Fire feat. Jess Mills - artwork

After the success of last year’s “Foundation” album and countless brilliant remixes, Breakage unveiled some new material at the end of last year in the shape of “Fighting Fire”. You can get your grubby mits on it now and what you get for your hard earned is an easy on the ears chunk of tranced out dubby goodness.

When I first saw the title last year I thought it was Jeff Mills and concocted a wee collaboration in my mind with great excitement. Fear not however, despite the lack of involvement from the techno godfather, it’s a brilliant track and bodes well for Breakage’s forthcoming third album.

    Available now at Boomkat.

Shackleton is back with a bang as he launches the “Fireworks” EP. Having started with Skull Disco and weaved his way through early Dubstep he found himself producing one of the best Fabric albums in some time with his sound moving far more towards techno.

For this release on Honest Johns that theme continues with added tribal spice. Things are taken even darker with the inclusion of a mind bending remix from T++ as part of the package.
