Paul Reset - Beardism Vol 8 - artwork

Brace yerself, it’s time for the first Beardism of 2012.

Included “inna da mix” are tunes from Boddika, Radioactive Man, Midland, Photek and more. I usually slip a bit of old skool into the beard but there are some recent numbers on a quality nostalgia tinged tip that do the job nicely.

Slugabed recently announced that he had been signed to the label titan that is Ninja Tune. Big things indeed. With an album planned we now start to hear the fruits of this labour as the EP “Sex” is about to drop.

The original is packed with 80′s boogie business, while the Daedelus remix slows the pace and warps things out. There’s a short interlude on “Molecules” where the synth is still king with a undercurrent of funky before Groundislava provides some future funk feeling to seal the deal.

Get this ordered without delay from the Ninja Tune site.

We really do like Tom Trago and his smooth brand of house music. We then obviously got very excited when we heard that he had a new track coming out on Rush Hour with none other than Carl Craig on remix duties.

The track is question “Use Me Again” is an unadulterated disco funk belter with beautiful strings, killer bassline and infectious groove. The remix has subtle changes, with effects and percussive claps thrown into the mix. Carl Craig knows when not to mess with a good thing!

    Profisee

From his early work with The Yard Emcees in the late 90s through to more recent collaborations with the likes of Hexstatic, Edinburgh’s Profisee has steadily built up a reputation as one of the countries finest MCs with an ability to adapt to multiple genres with ease.

A long time in the making, his debut album “From All Angles” finally arrives on April the 11th and is the perfect showcase for his work.

Featuring productions from the likes of Neil Landstrumm, Ninja Tune’s Poirer, dubstep don Starkey and LuckyMe’s newest signing S-Type, the long player packs in crushing beats and tough rhythms alongside quieter moments, all sitting perfectly under Profisee’s flawless delivery and lyrical content.

Standout tracks for us include the monstrous “Take My Hand” and the ridiculously funky “Shake”, but stream the whole album below for the next week and make sure to see all the angles. You can pre-order the album over at Juno and fairsharemusic now.

Don’t forget you can also still grab his brilliant “Logan’s Run EP” for free, released on our own Phuturelabs imprint and also pick up lots more freebies at Profisee’s Soundcloud.

    Lazy Sundays: Hammock – Kenotic

    hammock-kenotic

I first came across Hammock when I heard the album “Maybe They Will Sing for Us Tomorrow”. The post rock undertones combined with ambient noise and field recordings created a desolate yet engaging soundscape. Delving deeper into their back catalogue on Bandcamp, I discovered “Kenotic” which first saw a release in 2005.

The 15 track album is without doubt my favourite of their works. Thats not to say their later work is any less enthralling, it just the mood captured and the sonic landscape that is created make you want to listen over and over again. This is never off the iPod.

I have picked out a few of my favourites for all out friends on HypeM and Shuffler FM while also including the whole album from the their Soundcloud page to click play and enjoy.

It’s been another top month for tunes and 2012 is looking to be another great year for electronic music. The sun also finally arrived in Glasgow this month so we’re a little happier than usual and that might be reflected on our rundown of tunes for March.

Hint’s “Daily Intake” album on Tru Thoughts has been picking up a lot of play this month and thanks to XLR8R you grab one of the stand out tracks, the tough garage goodness of “Lock The Door” featuring Zed Bias.

Hint – Lock the Door (feat. Zed Bias)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Heavily tipped by DJ Sneak in our recent interview, Belgian producer Ramon Tapia has been churning out some top quality house grooves of late and this remix of Telonius is a free download thanks to Mixmag.

We were lucky enough to catch Leftfield’s return to the live scene at RockNess a couple of years back and they’ve just released a live album entitled “Tourism” for those seeking armchair based nostalgia.

Grab “Black Flute” from the album for free below.

With a new 12″ arriving on Hotflush shortly and an album for Modeselektor’s “Monkeytown” imprint (as part of Lazer Sword) landing next month, Lando Kal has certainly been busy of late.

His “TMRW EP” for Still Cold has been kicking around for a while but finally saw a proper release last month and it’d be foolish to let it pass you by. Grab this over at Boomkat.

There has been lots of bpm chat in Labs HQ with a a swing towards a slower groove when DJing. There are some amazing producers pushing this type of Italo and disco electro sound and we have this limited vinyl only gem to check out from Discodromo & Massimiliano Pagliara.

Their tune “Samba Imperiale” has been given the rework treatment by Cos/Mes with stunning results.

We have Om Unit and Machinedrum team up next to form the Dream Continuum for the just released “Reworkz” EP on Planet Mu.

It’s a full on attack packed with jungle and footwork vibes.

Next up, Dark Sky are back on Black Acre with their Black Rainbows EP. It’s as you would expect, filled with killer breaks and searing production values.

These guys just don’t make bad tunes. Hit the buy links on the player to grab the whole thing.

Gerry Read is a young man going places. The 19 year old is reworking the house sound with a dirty edge , adding some sleazy grooves to dancefloors across the world.

His new EP on Dutch label Delsin not only sees his debut for them but also a plan from then to offer a new house focused series.

It may have been on his Soundcloud page for months but it finally saw a release this month on Swamp81.

The irrepressible Boddika unleashes Acid Jackson. Pure quality from start to finish. Grab this now at Boomkat.

Finishing off on a nice moody note is Glasgow’s Dam Mantle. Known for bass fuelled slightly weird workouts, his latest tune “Her Woes” is a lovely slab of melancholy goodness available now at Boomkat.

Lovelock - Burning Feeling - artwork

Steve Moore is certainly a busy man, over the past five years he’s released a huge amount of material for labels such as Kompakt and even produced two horror movie soundtracks. His latest outing sees him don the Lovelock guise and unleash an album for Prins Thomas’s Internasjonal imprint.

The long player “Burning Feeling” has a sense of the familiar as a few of the tracks have been kicking around for a while, with “Maybe Tonight” first appearing on Chromeo’s DJ Kicks album back in 2009.

Taking in everything from 70s glam stylings to 80s tv soundtracks and mixing in a nice amount of disco goodness, the eight tracks contained within veer from early morning soothers to full on disco belters.

For those familiar with Lovelock you’ll welcome the five brand new tracks and for those new to the name, this provides a perfect entry point into the mind of Steve Moore.

This lands on April 26th and is must have for those with an taste for the funkier flavours.

We hit the early house business trail today with the 1987 US platter “You’re No Good For Me” recorded by Kelly Charles.

Although the song did not actually chart, it certainly seemed to reach the underground as it was famously sampled by the Prodigy in 1994 on “No Good (Start the Dance)” amongst others. You can check both these classics out below.

    Midland

Midland’s unique brand of uplifting house has marked him out as one of our favourite producers of recent years and his new EP for Aus Music will do nothing to damage that reputation.

Over the “Placement EP”‘s four tracks, he maintains a melancholy atmosphere while packing enough bass driven punch to ensure these tracks a place in the sets of the finest Djs the world over.

As with all of Midland’s material, it’s best just to let the music do the talking.

Fire up the previews and head over to Midland’s Soundcloud to hear the EP in full and once you’re convinced of it’s greatness, make sure to snap up a copy from the 2nd of April.
