With the new Booka Shade album “More!” only a few months old we are now starting to see EP’s with some tasty remixes doing to the rounds. The Berlin duo have decided to give their own tune “Teenage Spaceman” a rework in anticipation of the full EP’s release at the end of August on Get Physical. An epic nine minute journey through the galaxy is what awaits you with some familiar percussive elements that drive the tune through. We think it’s worth checking out the whole EP on Beatport.

Recent singles Donut and Bad Love have been whetting our appetite for the fourth Booka Shade album. Finally landing next week, it’s without a doubt their best work yet. Featuring 11 tracks in a compact 45 minute running time, it’s a cracking wee journey through their trademark melancholy tech house with nods to electro on “The Door” and with sprinkings of synth pop goodness throughout.

Dieter Meier of the legendary Yello pops up on “Divine” and regular collaborator Chelonis R. Jones provides vocals for the aforementioned “Bad Love” but it’s opening track “Havanna Sex Dwarf” that stands out for me as the best on the album. With it’s booty shakin bassline sitting alongside a ridiculously catchy synth line, it sets the bar high for the album and shows that even four albums in, there’s no sign of stagnation in the Booka Shade camp.

May 4th will see the release of Booka Shade’s fourth album “More” and to give us a wee taster – new track “Bad Love” has just landed on Beatport with a couple of cracking remixes and another new track in the shape of “Buffer Ruffer”.

It’s the Tim Green remix that’s doing it for me, a nice atmospheric tech house number with steel drum-esque percussion riding low in the mix – cracking stuff.

Thanks go to the excellent XLR8R online magazine for bringing us an exclusive free download of M.A.N.D.Y. vs. Booka Shade – Donut (Gui Boratto Remix). This song first appeared on the 2007 5 Years of Get Physical compilation.

The techno aspect of the original is enhanced by Boratto’s use of glitchy, atmospheric keyboard work and metallic strings. It’s worth checking out the release on Beatport as further reworks from people such a Boy 8 Bit and Ben Hoo make it a must have. Also keep an eye out for the long awaited Booka Shade third album later this year.
