After the success of last year’s “Foundation” album and countless brilliant remixes, Breakage unveiled some new material at the end of last year in the shape of “Fighting Fire”. You can get your grubby mits on it now and what you get for your hard earned is an easy on the ears chunk of tranced out dubby goodness.

When I first saw the title last year I thought it was Jeff Mills and concocted a wee collaboration in my mind with great excitement. Fear not however, despite the lack of involvement from the techno godfather, it’s a brilliant track and bodes well for Breakage’s forthcoming third album.

More lamb on the menu to tickle the taste bubs as we move towards the last few roast dinners before the end of the year. Tuck in here before getting the tunes on the stereo.

First up this week we have Slugbed hanging out the debut release on the Donkey Pitch label. Rapid synth runs and tough bass cramming into the the tight space with loads of cracks and smacks give a very pleasing result as Mwëslee takes on the remix.

Next on the counter we have an old skool take on Lo Fi masters Thunderball, who’s new album we covered here. Old favourites Ghost on Tape bring the funky vibes and a touch of nostalgia to the tune. Sounds fresh yet classic at the same time. It’s a monster.

Moving along we bring a bit of indie to proceedings when we got contacted by PHON.O who had just fired out a garage remix of Berlin electronic folk outfit Bodi Bill. Nice balance of styles on this one which will be available 10th December on Krakatau.

Last but not least is yet another brilliant remix from Breakage. This deep n dubby remix of Clare Maguire has been kicking around for a while but we thought we’d highlight it for anyone who missed it. Available as a freebie courtesy of Discodust.

Shy FX is regarded as one of the pioneers of jungle and drum n bass and over the years has released countless classics within the genre. While he’s dipped his toes in the mainstream charts, he’s retained his underground credentials and anthems such as “Bambaata” still appear regularly in Dj sets to this day. 2011 will see his latest album project “Larger Than Life” surface and the first taster from the album has arrived in the shape of new single – “Raver”.

The track sees him pile on the vocals thick with appearances from Kano, Donaeo and Roses Gabor and while the original is a fairly strong track, it’s the remixes which really lift the track to the next level. To keep the drum n bass heads happy Benny Page delivers a straightforward jump up mix while MJ Cole delivers a grungy garagey mix and Breakage steps up to deliver the pick of the bunch.

Taking the vocal overload of the original and sprinkling it over a gem of an old skool track, it showcases Breakage at his finest. While he’s had a ridiculously good year on the remix tip, this finishes things off in fine style – delivering an amazing slice of jungle goodness that would sound perfectly in place in 1995 as it does in 2010.

Shy FX – Raver (Breakage Pattern Moschino Remix)

We’re certainly partial to a Breakage remix here at the Labs with his previous reworks of Plan B and Florence and The Machine proving popular here. Next to step into his sights are Underworld. While I’ve always been a bit of a fan, recent work hasn’t exactly inspired me hugely so it’s up to Breakage to up their game a little and he’s done a brilliant job. The original’s a bit of a trancey number and he’s retained these elements while sprinkling on some dubstep magic of his own.

Underworld – Loved A Film (Breakages Lazer Fingers Remix)

After turning in amazing remixes of Massive Attack and Florence and the Machine of late, it seems that Breakage can do no wrong as he ones again steps up to the remix oche. The target this time is Plan B – currently one of daytime radio’s golden boys and it’s his new single “Prayin” that gets the Breakage treatment.

Once again taking the original and draping it in oceans of atmosphere and bass, it’s another cracker for those who prefer their dubstep on the moody, atmospheric tip.

The nice folk at Digital Soundboy have given us two copies of Breakage’s amazing “Foundation” album to give away. It’s an absolutely brilliant album and you can read our review from earlier this month for more info.

While Breakage had built up a solid reputation as a top class drum n bass producer – the second disc of his debut album “These Things Shall Pass” showed another side to his talent, dropping the bpms, adding even more bass and depth and showing that he could work at various tempos with ease. In the past couple of years he’s been forging a name for himself in the dubstep scene with huge success and the 15th of March sees his second album “Foundation” released on Digital Soundboy.

From the opening pads of “Open Up” to the squealing guitar on the closing “Breathless”, it’s an absolutely jaw droppingly good album. With guests including David Rodigan, Burial and Roots Manuva, this is an album for thorough start to finish listening. While there are several stand out moments such as the aforementioned Burial collab, the whole package works so well that you’ll want an uninterrupted listen. My personal favourites are “Old Skool Ting” (a brilliant jungle number) and “Temper” (featuring Kemo – an eerie dubsteppy number with haunting vocals from the New York MC).

The label want to keep the album fairly underwraps and requested we didn’t stream any of the new tracks – but to give you a taster – here’s audio of previous single “Higher”.

The Fat Club gave away this brilliant Breakage remix of Massive Attack today so we thought we’d share the love.

Standing out as one of the best moments from the new album “Heligoland”, Breakage has done a rather fine job on the remix. It’s a bit dubsteppy it’s a bit housey it’s a bit good and when the 2 Bad Mice breakbeat drops about 4 minutes in, it just becomes amazing.
