Caribou brings back his Daphni incarnation for the 3rd time this year for the inaugural release on the new Jiaolong label. With no actual name for the EP its just called 001 and kicks off with an afrobeat remix of the band Cos-Ber-Zam.

We then kick into a more funky soulful groove with “Yes I Know” with this tune maybe proving to be the most popular of the 3 tracks on offer.

Last up the track “Jiao” is dominated by a rapid synth line and shuffling percussion with a bit of a space funk groove.

Radiohead recently announced a series of remix 12s and got the fanboys pretty hot under the collar. The first in the run arrived recently and featured reworks from Caribou and Jacques Greene.

Caribou’s take on “Little by Little” is up first and we’re in wonderfully spacey territory here with Yorke’s vocals being literally sprinkled over a chilled house backing full of atmosphere and 808 bass. The track successfully retains the overall feel of the original but also captures some of that Caribou magic.

LuckyMe’s Canadian outpost Jacques Greene steps up next and his involvement once again shows that someone at Radiohead towers has their fingers firmly on the pulse. Again we’re treating to a lovely slice of house, this time taking things up a notch and utilising almost anthemic synth work and a hypnotic hihat rhythm that I can’t help slightly zoning out to. A fantastic rework and definitely my pick of the two.

From it’s humble beginnings in 2008, Record Store Day has quickly spread and is now celebrated around the world. The third annual event takes place today and in Glasgow we’ll be at Rub a Dub to catch performances from Instra:mental, Koreless, The Blessings and more. LOVE Music Glasgow will also be staging a similar event with less electronica and more focus on the indie side of things.

Big news coming down the pipe as we hear that two of the artists of last year Caribou (Dan Snaith) and Four Tet (Kieran Hebden) are to release a split EP sometime later this year on Hebden’s Text Records label.

We have full samples of both tunes below with Dan Snaith, working under the new moniker of Daphni, bringing a more techno vibe to his tune. Hebden on the other hand stick to what he knows best, brilliant arrangements and wonderful production.

New label somethinksounds are about to release their inaugural EP into the world and have chosen new producer Eliphino to kick things off. The EP sounds familiar but also has a strange distant quality to the vocal. Beautiful synth arrangements and simple sharp beats suggest that there is more to come from this producer. We have a freebie to boot but get this on the 29th November when it hits the streets.

Caribou has just released the “Swim” remix album and its filled with quality tracks from start to finish. We already brought the MCDE mix of “Leave Home”. We now have the Midland edit of the anthem “Sun”where he goes towards a more house feel. Lots of echo and effects give this tune even more amazing presence and atmosphere than the original. Its been getting played in the Labs daily. Enjoy!

When two of our favourite artists get together we start to get a little excited. When Four Tet and Caribou release a tune we just go mental! What’s more they are giving this away for free. The single “Angel Echoes” will be released on July 19th in the UK and Europe and August 3rd in North America on Domino.

The familiar vocal starts the track off but the is taken into techno territory by Dan Snaith, techno of the glitchy atmospheric type. Great stuff. To download click the arrow on the right of the player.

Here is a sneak preview of the upcoming album “Swim” by Caribou with the track “Odessa”. Dan Snaith takes his Caribou moniker in a different direction with this tune. Gone are some of the more psychedelic pop sounds and at times orchestral style arrangements of previous albums “Andorra” and “The Milk of Human Kindness”. Instead he has opted for a more dance music feel while still stamping it with his superb production skills. The track moves along at a nice pace and has nods to the Junior Boys production style. This track is due out on April 20th and can be bought from Merge Records.
