Friction launched Shogun Audio in 2004 and since then the label’s output has ranged from deep n dark minimal meanderings from the likes of Alix Perez through to big main room smashers from The Prototypes.

To mark their 50th release, they’ve decided to gather the imprint’s finest together in one place for 12 track compilation “Way of the Warrior”. Alongside staples such as Icicle and Perez there’s also the odd guest popping in for the ride including dBridge and Break.

As with the previous output, the styles vary throughout but the best moments are when the foot’s taken off the gas slightly and the producers let the beats breathe a little.

The album’s released on CD, vinyl and digital download on the 17th of October but available to pre-order now over at the Shogun shop.

D Bridge and his Exit imprint never fail to impress and this, the 22nd release on the label, is once again another slice of beautifully atmospheric electronica. Taking a fairly simple old skool-esque electro backbone and draping it in ethereal synths, pads and sounds, this is D Bridge at his very best, shaking off the shackles of any genre definitions. I can’t think of a finer way to ease into the working week.

In the past year or so, D Bridge and Instra:Mental have carved a niche of their own in drum n bass with their Autonomic podcasts. Taking snippets of electronica, idm, ambient, downtempo and dubstep and chucking them into the drum n bass mix has lead to their sound opening the ears of many to their unique style. I’ve long been a fan of D Bridge’s work – from his brilliant work as part of Future Forces Inc up to his Bad Company days. In recent years however I haven’t really been finding his material to my liking. As much as I’m a fan of deeper drum n bass, I found his solo work to be a little on the dull side and slightly overrated. As part of the Autonomic collective and with his Exit imprint he’s responsible for bringing deeper beats to the forefront of dnb, but I’ve just found his own material slightly lacking somewhat.

Then I stumbled across this little beauty, released as part of a split 7″ release on Fat City, and I was blown away. It’s a lovely piece of downtempo electronica, taking inspiration from classic electro and with a bassline so warm you could basically wrap yourself up in it in the middle of a snowstorm and still be toasty. It has rejigged my faith in his phenomenal production skills and I’ll be keeping my eyes a-peeled for anything similar from him in this vein.
