The weather’s starting to get a bit flaky so today’s planned BBQ roast has been canned – in aid of this roast leg of lamb badboy we can safely munch indoors.

Now you’ll be needing some musical accompaniment to go with that grub and first up we’ve got a cracker from the amazing new album from The Cat Empire. The album’s called “Cinema” and aye, it’s great as expected and this is one of my fave tracks from it. Nice summery type goodness with the horn section in effect.

The Cat Empire – Shoulders

Next up are the mighty Dan Le Sac and Scroobius Pip – they’ve released a double aside from their “Logic of Chance” album and got the remixers in. I wasn’t hugely impressed until I hit Sampha’s remix of “Sick Tonight” – it’s a lovely spacey number with p-funk style whistles floating around Pip’s lyrical goodness.

To round up this week’s roast, we’ve got a bit of a belter from Instra:mental. It’s certainly no secret that we’re huge fans of their sound here at the Labs and their latest is one of their finest works yet. Coming on a one sided very limited 10″, “End Credits” has the usual depth and atmosphere you’d expect alongside a warm bassline and a catchy wee synth hook that reminds me of Knight Rider in a good way.

Dan Le Sac and Scroobius Pip’s debut album “Angles” was by far my favourite album of 2008 and easily ranks up there in my top 5 of all time, with Le Sac’s epic beats wrapping their way around Pip’s inspiring lyrics and expertly crafted delivery, it’s an album that I constantly go back to. So when new material surfaced towards the end of last year I was a wee bitty excited and even more so when new album “The Logic of Chance” arrived.

Although, at points, slightly cheerier than it’s predecessor (with tracks on subjects such as musical snobbery and the fun of getting the last train home), the duo still take time out to delve into topics such as domestive violence and knife crime. Again, the beats compliment the lyrics and vocal delivery brilliantly and manage to keep the listener hooked throughout, even when Pip’s lyrical content wanders down darker, more difficult paths.

These are the two stand out tracks for me – but as with “Angles”, my favourite track changes almost daily and I can’t recommend grabbing the full album highly enough.
