While Stateless are preparing their second album for Ninja Tune, they’ve queued up another taster single in the shape of “Assassinations”. Previous outing “Ariel” received a cracking remix from Midland and they’ve drafted in two of the best producers working in electronic music at the moment to take the new single apart.

Om Unit steps up first and turns in epic slice of slo mo house with the vocals retained and sprinkled over uplifting pads and haunting atmospherics with an almost anthemic feel. FaltyDL takes the track on next and leads the track down a dark alley where dubstep and garage leanings battle it out for prominence. The outcome is a wonderfully moody rework with a split personality where soft and fluffy sounds fly alongside glitchy edits and chipmunk’d vocals. FaltyDL’s been impressing us of late with some brilliant remixes lately and his new 12″ for Planet Mu is some of his best work to date. The three track release captures the spirit of classic garage and coats it in a 2010 flavour, with the third track on the release being the stand out for me.

“My Friends Will Always Say” utilises a brilliant smokey vocal and wraps it in spacey pads and skippy garagey beats to deliver a 4AM gem.
