Radio Magnetic were at this year’s Homegame festival armed with cameras and captured a series of sessions in their wee cottage in Pittenweem. Our particular fave is from MPC master Kev Sim AKA River of Slime.

The Slime was first unleashed in the form of “Volume One” on our Phuturelabs imprint and since then he’s gone on to spread his slimey goodness around the world. Watch a track below and download both parts of his Pittenweem live set under the vid.

Our close friends at Radio Magnetic have announced they are moving all of their content onto the excellent Mixcloud platform for streaming. Over the last 10 years The Magnetic collective have established themselves as one of the most forward thinking musical stations responsible for the first plays for acts such as Mylo, FOUND, Hudson Mohawke, Dimlite, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Alex Smoke, Vector Lovers and many others.

By moving the content to Mixcloud they will now open up their content onto the every growing smart phone market with the newly released Mixcloud App. With potentially 10 years of content to choose from with live sessions from the likes of Cinematic Orchestra, Jose Gonzales, Wu Tang Clan, Candi Staton, Marlena Shaw, Gwen McRae, Kool Keith etc that’s a real aural pleasure right there.

The label are getting set to release “Anti Climb Paint”, the next single from FOUND, a firm favourite here at the Labs. The single comes with a wee remix package – one from label-mates The Phantom Band and a huge remix from Mr S-Type.

S-Type’s rework is without doubt some of his best work to date – huge building melodies, a synth line to die for and those trademark crisp drums. Grab the instrumental for free below and stream the vocal mix.

The single is released on June 6th and to mark the release, there’ll be an edible chocolate 7″ run of the single limited to 50 copies. Enter this competition on Chemikal’s site for a chance to win one of the 7s.

Edinburgh’s FOUND have long been a favourite of ours here at the Labs, with their first two long players (“Found Can Move” and “This Mess We Keep Reshaping”) being pretty much played to death around here. They were recently snapped up by the fine Scottish label Chemikal Underground and the first full length fruit of their collective labours has arrived in the shape of “factorycraft”.

It’s their best work to date, packed with electronically fuelled backings and emotive and wonderfully cryptic lyrics wrapped up in rich melodies and hooks you’ll find yourself humming endlessly after one listen. Finding a genre to easily slot FOUND into proves a difficult task and I’ve decided to pen a new one and call it “ultrafunkfolk”. Don’t forget that one, sure to catch on.

The FOUND goodies just keep coming, with their Friday Freebies series in full flow and a new album lined up for March, the Edinburgh band have just dropped a cracking new mix entitled “ComputerScheisse Volume 5″.

With a plethora of quality brilliant albums set to land in the first half of 2011, FOUND’s forthcoming “factorycraft” album stands above most and further marks the band out as one of Scotland’s finest. We’ve had a sneak peek of the album here at the Labs and can confidently say it’s their best work yet.

The first single from the album lands on the 7th of March and it’s called “Machine Age Dancing”, it’s a cracker but the flipside’s even better. “Today We Watch The Wooden Trumpets Burn” blends Ziggy Campbell’s vocals with a glitchy backing that never wanders too far into noodly territory and keeps the groove packed tight throughout.

It’s no secret that we’re huge fans of Edinburgh band FOUND here at the Labs and we were chuffed to announce recently that they had signed to legendary Scottish label Chemikal Underground. To celebrate this and also in the spirit of freeness, the band have decided to give away a track every Friday from now until their 3rd album lands in March 2011.

It’s been running for quite a few weeks now and the quality has been ridiculously high, with the tracks ranging from unreleased gems to their remixes of other bands material and also the odd remix of FOUND material from other artists. Our pick of the bunch so far though is “String Theory”, a nice chunky piece of electronica heavily laden with percussion galore and epic strings. With two absolutely brilliant self-released albums under their belt and a handful of singles and EPs for labels such as Fence and Aufgeladen Und Bereit , FOUND are undoubtedly one of Scotland’s finest bands and a massive favourite of ours here at the Labs. So we’re really chuffed to be able to announce that they’ve just signed to legendary label Chemikal Underground and the spring of 2011 shall see the release of their long-awaited third album.

We’ll also be releasing some solo material from Kev Sim (one third of FOUND) on the new Phuturelabs label – more to come on that later.

While the blogs are going nuts over the Caribou remix of Silver Columns’ “Always On”, I thought it’d be nice to remind everyone of the brilliant remix from FOUND. As well as being one of the best bands in Scotland, they also turn in a mean remix. Taking a more downbeat route than the Caribou rework, it’s a love piece of melancholy electronica.
