Just short of a year after having a track on a Scuba mix, George Fitzgerald get his first release on the Hotflush 2 imprint with “The Let Down”. On offer are dubtech grooves and future garage beats that will draw comparisons with luminaries such as Joy Orbison. Don’t be fooled though as this lacks nothing in the quality department, so much so that Mr Orbison has signed two releases for Doldrums. Get this now at Boomkat.

New material from Joy Orbison always gets us a little hot under the collar, factor in that he’s remixing Todd Edwards and we’re pretty much sweating as soon as we press play. Taking the auto tuned vox of the original and sprinkling them over a beautiful wee slice of garagey house before coating it in the usual Joy Orbison warmth.

MJ Cole, Feadz and My Dear Disco also chip in remixes but fail to come close to the Joy Orbison goodness.

If the dark and gloomy winter mornings are getting you down then a new release by Joy Orbison on Aus Music is sure to put a wee spring in your step. “The Shrew Would Have Cushioned The Blow” wanders down familiar paths for the 22 year old Londoner with his trademark crystal clear production, warm as you like pads, haunting female vocal snippet and head nodding garagey beats. “So Derobe” on the flip adds more clunky, mechanical beats to proceedings but retains the Orbison gloss.

Once you’ve taken in all the new Orbison loveliness on the a-side, flip the 12″ over for an Actress remix of “The Shrew” which strips the track back a little, roughens it up around the edges a little and spits out a chunky slice of house.

Joy Orbison first popped up with the brilliant uk garagey meets downtempo breaks via dubstep vibes of Hyph Mngo on Hotflush and it brought him to the attention of many – including Mary Anne Hobbs who asked him in for a wee guest mix on her Radio 1 show.
