Martyn’s 3024 imprint has been responsible for some of the finest electronica 12s of recent years and the label is set to mark it’s 15th release with this quality double a-side from Instra:mental and Trevino.

With so much solo work coming from the studios of Boddika and Jon Convex, it’s possible that the duo’s collaborative Instra:mental project could suffer. This hasn’t proved to be the case however and this latest outing is one of their best to date.

“Pyramid” is a lovely chunk of old skool tinged electro packed with squelchy synth work, crunchy snares and unnerving atmospherics.

Trevino is a new name on us although there have been hints that it may be a current 3024 artist utilising a new golf themed alias. Answers on a postcard. The track in question is a bit of a belter.

Again on an old skool electro tip but taking a slightly lighter lean than the flipside, it’s a lovely spacey affair with an infectious call and response hook.

Martyn and his 3024 imprint have been making impressive moves of late with some top quality releases from Jon Convex and Julio Bashmore alongside his own material.

From his early days producing dnb for Flight’s “Play:Musik” label (if you don’t own “Next 2 U” then you’re doing your collection a disservice) through to his amazing debut album “Great Lengths”, over the past few year years he’s been one of the most consistently interesting producers in electronic music.

He’s also been carving out a fine reputation as a DJ and Glasgow punters will be lucky enough to be able to catch him in action this Saturday at Chambre 69 courtesy of the Deadly Rhythm boys. Have a listen to this Rinse FM guest mix for a taster of his Dj’ing skills:

Instra:mental certainly haven’t been resting on their laurels of late. Alongside their recent debut album and solo output from Boddika, the other member of the duo Jon Convex has a host of quality solo material in the pipeline for release also.

First to appear is the “Convexations EP” for Martyn’s 3024 imprint. The title track opens the EP and should be a sound familiar to fans of Instra:mental with it’s tough drums and crunchy bass complimented perfectly by the odd burst of spacey atmospherics. “Falling Again” is up next and lightens the mood slightly with it’s 2 step style break and vocal snippets. Digital buyers get a wee bonus tucked away at the end in the shape of “Order into Chaos” and once again we’re on dark electro styled territory.

The quality label from Dublin, All City have been brewing up some serious collaboration business for their label. First up in the series are DJ and production don Martyn getting together with Labs favourite Mike Slott. Our featured track “All Nights” has a swinging techno vibe that has more of the 3024 vibe, while “Pointing Fingers” sees Slott bringing the offbeat atmosphere and synth chills of his LuckyMe productions.

Martyn’s been a bit quite of late, but with the greatness of his debut album “Great Lengths” still fresh in our memory, he’s back with this Tiga remix. Taking the original and coating it in a smokey garage vibe with melancholy strings and atmospherics a-plenty, it’s a brilliant piece of work packed with enough sub bass to work just as well in a dark club at 1AM as sitting at home on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Kode 9′s long awaited Dj Kicks album surfaced this week and for all followers of top quality bass driven music in all it’s forms, it’s a must have. The mix is packed end to end with amazing beats from the likes of Zomby, The Bug, Ikonika and Digital Mystikz but one of the highlights was Kode 9′s own “You Don’t Wash” and hot off the press is this brilliant rework from Martyn.

The second 12″ of remixes from Martyn’s phenomenal “Great Lengths” album (the first installment featured remixes from Zomby and Redshape) sees Ben Klock and Illum Sphere get their hands on Martyn’s work.

Ben Klock’s remix of “Is This Insanity” is a driving dubby techno number that surrounds you and batters you round the head in a nice subtle way. Stripping away the tribal vibe of the original and replacing it with a sense of paranoia and danger, it’s brilliant stuff but could really benefit with an instrumental version (never been a fan of Spaceape).

On the flip, Illum Sphere takes on “Brilliant Orange”. The original was a lovely short n snappy ambient burst and the Manchester producer has thrown in some skippy beats that unsettle as they seem to fall over each other and slip out of sync with the edgey pads and atmospherics floating around on top.
