When two of the most iconic names in electronic music come together, you can be sure it’ll be something special.

Forthcoming as a limited edition 12″, Massive Attack have invited Burial to get to work on unreleased track “4 Walls” and “Heligoland” album track “Paradise Circus”.

Although audio of the latter isn’t currently available, the mouthwatering rework of the former ensures the pre-orders will be stacking up.

The new Massive Attack EP sees “Atlas Air” pick up remixes from Jneiro Jarel and Tim Goldsworthy, but the real gem in the pick is Clark’s remix of unreleased track “Redlight”.

Taking Martina Topley Bird’s breathey vocals and sprinkling them over some chunky drums and a tonne weight of sub bass before transforming into piano-led ambience right when you least expect it.

Available now digitally at iTunes or as a limited edition vinyl run.

Formed out of the Wild Bunch in Bristol in the late 80′s Massive Attack have lasted the pace more than most electronic acts formed at that time. With six albums under their belts with various line ups they are masters of the blissed out trip hop sound that came to life during the inception of the early 90′s dance culture.

The sound is summed up no better that with the all time classic “Unfinished Sympathy” from the eponymous first album “Blue Lines”. Financial support came from Neneh Cherry, who’s husband Cameron McVey also provided production expertise. Out of these early recordings came Labs favourite Tricky and well as members of Portishead, together they would emerge to create a whole new musical genre.

Sit back, relax and lets the beautiful vocal, and string arrangements take you back. Blissful yet emetional this song never fails to hit the spot.

The Fat Club gave away this brilliant Breakage remix of Massive Attack today so we thought we’d share the love.

Standing out as one of the best moments from the new album “Heligoland”, Breakage has done a rather fine job on the remix. It’s a bit dubsteppy it’s a bit housey it’s a bit good and when the 2 Bad Mice breakbeat drops about 4 minutes in, it just becomes amazing.

With less than a month to go until Massive Attack’s 5th album proper hits the shelves, this 4 track sampler has arrived to wet everyone’s appetite.

Their last album “100th Window” came in for a bit of stick from the critics but for me it had some amazing moments (mainly “What Your Soul Sings”). Feb 8th 2010 will see the release of “Heligoland” and these 4 tracks alongside last year’s “Splitting The Atom” EP show that, incase there were any doubters, they’re back with some of their best material since debut album “Blue Lines”.

“Atlas Air” is the stand out track for me – vintage Massive Attack with haunting vocals, crisp beats and a brilliant organ line that you’ll find yourself humming for weeks.
