The man with the Ghostly touch is back. After some time touring his “Black City” album, Matthew Dear got right back into the studio to start work on the next long player.

The first fruits of this are the “Headcage” EP. With a pop underbelly as the base, there’s still room for indie, shoegaze and folk while still retaining that warped electronic sound.

With his new album “Black City” released to critical acclaim this week electro pop maestro Matthew Dear has just announced the that this first single to get a run out will be the unlikely “Little People”. Further inspection shows however that the long effect laden synth chords and Bowieesque melancholy vocals over a well paced disco beat may prove to be a hit. With a Mark E remix in the pipeline as well this are looking better all the time. Due for a release on the 14th September you can get the original for free below thanks to Ghostly.

One of the albums of last year for me was the self titled debut by The XX. It was subtle and powerful at the same time with sublime vocals layered on top of haunting guitar. It has now spawned a raft of remixes over the past few months with Matthew Dear doing what he does best to “VCR” by adding some lovely percussive funky elements giving more depth to the track.

If that wasn’t enough we have also got a rework by Los Angeles beat trickster Nosaj Thing to give away. This provides a more spaced out, darker feel in the background with nice broken beats.

I came across this yesterday when an e mail hit my inbox from seminal label Ghostly. They are giving away their 2007 release Break-a-Way Planets. Great news!!!! The mix is littered with talent including Matthew Dear, Dabyre, Lusine and Kiln. The album is a real mix of styles and I have picked 3 of my favorites below.
