The history of drum n bass is awash with lost DATs and dubplates talked about in hushed tones that have never seen a full release. Ram Records is a label with plenty of these in the closet and to see in their landmark 100th release they’ve decided to let us into the vaults with a special double 12″ pack.

RAMM100 lands on July 25th and we took a look inside.

First up is Sub Focus with “Stomp”, an absolutely huge chunk of dancefloor driven techy goodness with razor sharp synth work and a rollin amen strapped to the bottom end. It’s been a massive festival favourite for the past few years for those lucky enough to have a copy and you can now get your grubby mits on it.

Next up is Culture Shock and “Machine”. One of the stand out tracks from Nightlife 4, this one’s been racking up message board word counts since it’s appearance on the comp. The producer is still working on his debut album for the label and this clears the deck a little before we see some new material.

Label boss Andy C is up next with an anthem that’s been doing the rounds since 2006 – “Finders Keepers”. It’s once again another huge anthem in the classic Ram style with beefy drums, monstrous sub bass and an infectious synth hook.

Last but not least, it’s an update of the Ram Trilogy classic “No Reality”. I played to the original to death back in 98 and nearly ten years on, Dutch prduction team Noisia brought it bang up to date. Another one that looked like it would never see the light of day on vinyl.

For many a drum n bass head, Ed Rush & Optical’s debut album “Wormhole” marked the pinnacle of the genre and in recent years, Noisia have pleased the very same fans with their top quality techy dnb beats. So this particular meeting of minds is sure to bring a smile to the face of such people.

As you’d expect it’s a big ol’ bucket of filthy dnb goodness and not for the faint of heart. With the trademark Noisia big bass sounds alongside the perfect Ed Rush & Optical percussion and drums, it’s pretty much as good as it gets in the world of techy dnb. This one lands on October the 4th on Noisia’s Vision imprint.

The remix is now available as part of the remix pack that also includes reworks from Rynecologist, 12th Planet & Flinch and Rrrump. It’s the Noisia remix that you’ll be reaching for however. Big main room breaks are the order of the day here – packed to the brim with monstrous sub bass and epic synth work a-plenty.

Le Castlevania – Nobody Gets Out Alive (Noisia Remix) by NOISIA

Noisia’s debut album has been a coupla years in the making and in the meantime they’ve established themselves as one of the top names in the drum n bass scene and also cracked the electro house and breaks scene with massive tunes like “Gutterpump” and “Seven Stitches”. The album “Split The Atom” finally hits the shops today on Vision Recordings and it’s been well worth the wait.

Ranging from big main room electro bangers to deep and dark drum n bass rollers with a sprinkling of skits throughout, it’s the ridiculously epic “Alpha Centauri” that stood out for me as the best track on the album. With it’s half time, cinematic intro leading to an ever so slightly wobbly bassline that’s so fuzzy it probably has a beard, cracking stuff.

There’s also the huge “Red Heat” which is a massive breaksy house number with discoy bits, tis great – have a gander.

Also, for any relative newcomes to the Noisia sound – you can download “Silicon” – Noisia’s debut release from 2003 for free.

Amon Tobin is without doubt one of the most consistent producers of top quality electronica in the world. From doomy ambience to idm, techno, house, dubstep and pretty much every other genre of electronic music under the sun, Tobin has pretty much conquered it and made it his own.

He’s been working with dutch production trio Noisia on a track for the forthcoming album and along the way, took time to remix “Machine Gun”, the first single from the album “Split The Atom”. The original is a big chunky main room slice of breaksy electroy house type shenanigans – and fantastic it is, but Tobin’s remix is simply amazing. Taking the aggression of the original and sprinkling eerie atmospherics over the top before dropping to a tough bit of dubsteppy type technoy erm stuff (who needs sub genre names eh!).
