Broken20 prepare for a busy 2014 and unveils four EPs for free download

Glasgow label Broken20 certainly had a rather fine 2013 with brilliant releases from Orphax, Semtek and a phenomenal album of remixes from TVO’s “Red Night” courtesy of TVO and Covered in Sand (AKA Shifted).

This year will see output from the likes of Mick Finesse, Spatial, Chris Dooks and more and to get your appetite thoroughly whet they’ve offered up a series of EPs on a “pay-what-you-want” basis.

The label itself is run by the hive mind of TVO, Production Unit and Erstlaub and they’ve each offered up an EP of unreleased goodies with an additional various artists compilation also available to showcase the labels wares for the year ahead.

Production Unit’s “Loving Grace” was the first to make its way into our headphones and he’s delivered three tracks of the finest mucky techno, steering clear of any downtempo meanderings and heading straight for the jugular with punchy kicks, hefty sub bass assaults and crunchy synth work a-plenty.

TVO’s up next with “Blocking Out Inaction” and this time we’re delivered four tracks of top notch electronica and drone-driven ambience with the drums keeping themselves firmly in check until EP closer “BC7″.

All the tracks are edits taken from TVO’s live performances in 2013 and should hopefully be a signal of some new fresh material from the producer soon.

There’s more drone action in the third in the series with Erstlaub at the controls this time for “Twenty Paces Outwards In A Spiral”.

The near 18 minute long track is a brilliantly moody journey into the producer’s mind, described by the man himself as “A mandala rendered in granular modulations”.

Last but not least is the various artists comp “Six Threes and a Five”. Opening with a brilliant slab of eerie electronica from Phuturelabs fave Mick Finesse (don’t forget to grab the brilliant guest mix he put together for us) and closing with the haunting sounds of Tengui’s “Gathering (version)” it’s a brilliant showcase for the label’s forthcoming output with newies from Dj Votive and Szare standing out as particular highlights.

They’ve also recently launched their own monthly radio show through Future Music packed with plenty of new material from the label and other quality electronic outings so keep your digital dial locked for that.
