Clouds – Complete Control EP

Clouds

Perth duo Clouds first appeared in the world of electronic music with a release on Fake Blood’s Blood Music imprint and since then they’ve gone on to refine their sound further and further with monster after monster for Tiga’s Turbo and this year unveiled their debut long-player “Ghost Systems Rave”.

The album picked up accolades a-plenty and their 12″ for Overlee Assembly earlier this year is also sure to pop up in many end-of-year lists.

Respected Glasgow label Soma have surprisingly never played host to a release from the duo but this has now changed with the “Complete Control EP” landing this week.

The title track kicks things off and straight away we’re treated to a crunchy slice of dark techno that steers clear of any of the genre’s clichés and delivers a hefty aural assault that’s packed with class.

Next up we’ve got “3Talisman-Class Destroyer” and we’re in more straight up territory here with a driving 4/4 complimented by abrasive percussion and a serious amount of low end.

The intriguingly titled “39.844 g_mol” rounds things off nicely and things start to get dark again. An eerily pitched down spoken sample hovers in the air as a kick drum almost trips over itself while the synth work gets more aggressive as we go on.

This is a hugely impressive EP that showcases the duo’s ridiculous production talent and a willingness to find the intricacies within their chosen genre.

Available now on 12″ vinyl and digital download.
