Guest Mix: Spudd (85A)

Glasgow’s Spudd has been DJing around Glasgow since the late 90s when, as part of the Radar collective, he helped bring a live audio-visual assault to the city’s eyes and ears alongside Pointless Creations’ video work, FiST’s graphic input and like-minded set of DJs. They first popped up at the now infamous Cross Bar (now The Berkeley Suite) before moving to The Art School from 1999-2003.

They were responsible for some rather fine nights with some of techno’s most esteemed producers and DJs guesting including Patrick Pulsinger, Cannibal Cooking Club and a legendary Rephlex Records showcase which saw the Aphex Twin and Mike Dred aka Kosmik Kommando take to the Art School stage.

Spudd then took up residency at the Eskrima night at the venue for a couple of years before joining the art/music/performance/nonsense collective 85A where he’s involved in a variety of strange activities. They have a monthly show on Subcity Radio called The Ferq Parlour and run an irregular club night, Spit N Grind at Nice N Sleazys.

He also produces under the name Skizzwang using a loop pedal, an assortment of cheap keyboards, drum sounds, a microphone and a saw and can often be found playing live around Glasgow.

It’s his DJing we’re concerned with today however and he’s kindly put us together this rather class mix. Taking in classics from The Scientist and Drexciya alongside fresh material from some of techno’s finest with a big nod to Glasgow label Dixon Avenue Basement Jams.
