When it comes to creating house music for dark warehouses you can certainly do no wrong in heeding the advice “keep it simple”. Edinburgh’s Hostage knows exactly how to put that mantra to good use and frequently turns out club-ready monsters that focus on the main elements of a tasty 4/4 feast and strip away any unnecessary bumph.

While we’re still spinning his “Who Leads Us” EP around these parts, it seems he’s been far from resting on his laurels and has started a new free download series through his Soundcloud. The first fruit of such label has landed in the shape of “Crank”, a brilliant slab of bass heavy house goodness with an earworm of a bass hook and a deep and dark vibe throughout.

He’s also known for his monthly mixes and while we’re still awaiting June’s installment, here’s May’s outing to keep you busy.
