When the brilliant “The Timps EP” landed in our inbox back in 2011, it was immediately clear to see that Om Unit was a talent we should be keeping our eyes closely on.
Since then he’s refined his sound even further and released a host of quality material taking in electro, techno, juke, drum n bass and much much more for labels such as Exit, Metalheadz, his own Cosmic Bridge and the label he calls home Civil Music.
His debut album has just landed in the shape of “Threads” and takes full advantage of the space that such a long-form project affords him.
This is an album that’s definitely not in any rush to get anywhere and is all the better for it. Packed to the brim with atmosphere and depth but with plenty to read between the lines, the tempo varies throughout but the mood remains constant to create a very complete sounding piece of work.
There are a few vocal appearances throughout but for me they almost get in the way and the tracks would be better without them. “Threads” is a tremendous piece of work that delivers on the promise his earlier work had shown.
