Presk’s After Hours Selections

Dutch producer Presk has long been a firm favourite around these parts with his outings for the likes of Fourth Wave, 2020 Vision, RAMP and Ten Thousand Yen showcasing his talent for creating top drawer house and techno with a twist.

It’s to Ten Thousand Yen he returns for his latest EP and undoubtedly his strongest to date. The “Saluki EP” features four tracks of flawless 4/4 action with the huge title track leading the way.

You can snap up the EP now on 12″ vinyl with digital download to follow at the start of Feb.

While the majority of his material is aimed firmly at the dancefloor, we caught up with him to find out which tunes he reaches for after a long weekend spent in clubs, behind turntables or in front of speakers.

His album “Visions Of The Country” was reissued recently (Basho died in a freak accident because of a neck massage decades ago) and it got great reviews so I decided to give it a shot, even though I never heard of the guy before.

This song is incredibly beautiful and I’ve listened to it over and over and over, and over.

I bought his album “Money Jungle” by lucky accident when I was a teenager as it was in a discount bin and I liked the sleeve or something.

When I heard it as background music in a documentary I suddenly remembered how amazing this song is, with its odd rolling bassline (could’ve been on an Autechre track) and the smokey piano chords.

Bach’s fugues for some reason always calm me down. Probably they take up all of my brain trying to unconsciously following the melody lines branching out and intertwining again. Which means I can’t worry about anything else until I fall asleep.

Almost a lullaby until the drums come in and then it washes over you like a warm tidal wave.

After a night full of electronic music I’d rather put on something else than another techno record. This one seems perfect for a sleazy afterparty to sit around in your leather jacket talking to your friends in a haze of smoke.

Weird but laid back Sonic Youth track that seems capture that uncanny feeling you get when it’s early morning, you’re at an afterparty where you don’t know anyone and you’re getting sober again.

This one’s a bit more upbeat, lovely song that makes you think you’re relaxing in a hot tub drinking a fine whisky even when you’re just sitting on the couch drinking a cheap beer.
