SBTRKT’s Top 10 of 2010
As we reach the end of 2010, one producer that’s popped up time and time again on the Labs this year is the mighty SBTRKT. With brilliant releases for labels such as Grizzly and Numbers doing serious damage and the amazing “Step In Shadows” EP being one of the year’s biggest releases, he could simply do no wrong.
We managed to corner him and ask him to pick out his ten favourite tunes from the past year or so. Read on below…
SBTRKT’s Top Ten of 2010:
1: Flying Lotus – Dance Of The Pseudo Nymph
The whole Cosmogramma album grew epicly for me over 2010. This track and the lp as a whole cover a magnitude of emotions!Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. 2: James Blake – CMYK
Blake is someone who’s so painfully honest in his song/productions that it’s impossible not to love them really. This Kelis sampling track is as good as any of his others.Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. 3: Djedjotronic – Pepper
I have a secret desire to make more techno or whatever genre it fits into like Boys Noize etc. For now though I’m just happy to play tracks like this!Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. 4: Mr De’ – Whonleeone
Something that I love to dj out. A calm in the storm! – a simple detroit chord progression, which reminds me of the classic Groove Chronicles – Myron remix from back in 00s.Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. 5: Everything Everything – Tin
Was recommended to check them by Darwin Deez – and their LP def doesn’t disappoint. An idea with as much soul and attitude as any electronic production.Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. 6: Nosaj Thing – Fog (Jamie XX remix)
Jamie has a knack of getting in between tracks. his remixes always seem to trump the originals. This is prob my favourite of his, with the random sub bass note building in the middle to that enigmatic synth riff to the eventual 2step break Jamie trademark drop.Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. 7: Apparat – Circles
This one was on his latest dj kicks mix. lets me rest the Moderat LP for a while at least!Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
8: Submerse – Hold It Down
Heard Jackmaster play this one night in Amsterdam and had to hassle the producer on soundcloud to get a copy! It’s less the style or genre of the track but just the epic build when played at the right moment in a club. Nothing can trump it in my set right now if played correctly!Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. 9: Rustie – Hyperthrust
I was a late starter on the LuckyMe collective’s efforts. but Rustie certainly doesn’t slow down for anyone. His productions defy classification. which makes them only more amazing to me.Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. 10: Clark – For Wolves Crew
An old track from an artist I’d never checked before this year. How the hell I missed it I don’t know. The albums on Warp are great and this track def reminds me a lot of the Modeselektor moments I most enjoy. Glitchy church like productions!Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here.
