TVO teams up with Shifted (as Covered in Sand) for Red Night Variations

Last year’s “Red Night” album from Glasgow producer TVO (The Village Orchestra) was a lovely piece of work and its blend of off kilter drones, dark atmospherics and the odd minimal techno outing made it a firm favourite round these parts.

The producer himself has decided to go back in on the long-player, tear it apart and reconstruct some of the tracks to create his own “Variations” and as with most Broken20 releases, there’s a twist in the tail. Highly respected techno producer and friend of the label Shifted has come along for the ride and turned in four remixes also, utilising his new Covered in Sand alias.

The TVO reworks continue the originals themes and are brilliant pieces that take in the same kind of dark electronica that formed the original that leave you feeling that you’ve never been so happy and uneasy at the same time.

Shifted takes a slightly different approach and mostly dispenses with the need for drums and instead focuses on the industrial elements of the material.

A truly great piece of work and as well as the normal digital release, you can pick up a cassette version of the album and a special edition DVD, both in limited supply however so get in there quick.
